It was brought to my attention that it seems as Glen Beck has been losing advertisers for his show on Fox News. When I looked aorund, I found an article on Examiner.com that babbles about how advertisers seem to be fleeing in droves… It appears that with the Obama’s involvement in the case of the communist Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr for disorderly conduct, Beck made a comment about Obama being a racist. Considering it’s a rare event where the President would ever get involved in a simple local issue, why would Obama get involved? He and Gates are buds.
If we dig into this article a bit deeper, we look for the companies who supposedly bailed out.
- Proctor & Gamble, and Progressive Insurance distanced themselves immediately from Beck. Proctor & Gamble and Progressive Insurance said Beck advertising placement was an error that would be corrected.
- Lexis Nexis, who owns Lawyers.com also pulled its advertising and said it has no plans to return, while
- S.C. Johnson was next to announce they made a mistake in running ads with Beck and would not be doing so in the future.
- The Clorox Co. released a statement saying, “we do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts.”
To date, 33 Fox advertisers have removed their ads from Becks show including, CVS Caremark, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Sprint, and Clorox. The campaign that prompted such advertisers to distance themselves from Beck was led by ColorofChange.org, a group that promotes political action among African Americans. ”
According to the Associated Press, the advertisers leaving Beck are not leaving Fox Network. Irena Briganti, a network spokesperson said the companies have only requested to be moved elsewhere and Fox has not lost revenue due to the change.
The AP reports that this could mean advertising on Beck’s show could become cheaper. Last week, some of his advertisers included a law firm seeking asbestos victims, a male enhancement pill, a water filter company, and a company selling medical supplies to diabetics.
Maybe the reason why these advertisers had ads during the Beck hour were because of the ratings Beck has. Even Salon.com announced that he had the second highest rating during a specific period, only behind O’Reilly, the conservative the libs love to hate.
Back on March 16,2009, They called him a kook but then went on to say:
In fact, Beck has been dominating cable news recently. According to TVNewser’s charts of Nielsen ratings, out of all the cable news networks, his Fox show has consistently placed second in the key demographic of viewers aged 25 to 54 over the past couple weeks, beating even Sean Hannity’s and trailing only “The O’Reilly Factor.” When it comes to total viewers, too, Beck’s been cleaning up, generally placing third, just behind Hannity.
We also know about Progressive Insurance, and they will continue to advertise on Fox News, even though they supposedly made a mistake. Let’s look at who runs Progressive Insurance. Here is a short biograpgy of Lewis at Accuracy in Media
“A billionaire, Lewis is the chairman and chief executive officer of Progressive Corporation, the fourth-largest U.S. personal auto insurer, which insures high-risk motorists who can’t get insurance anywhere else. Stories in the media depict Lewis as a philanthropist who has given $50 million to the Guggenheim Museum in New York and $55 million to his alma mater, Princeton University. But what are they leaving out? A leading U. S. business reference manual, Hoover’s Handbook of American Business l999, actually described Lewis in print as “a functioning pot-head.”"
“Since 1991, Lewis has contributed $5 million to the ACLU to fight drug laws, and he has made large contributions to drug “legalization” campaigns in Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Utah, Florida, Maine, and Massachusetts.”
“Not one of the recent news reports on Lewis mentioned that on a trip to New Zealand three years he was arrested and admitted to three charges of importing drugs after customs officers found two ounces of hashish and 1.7 ounces of marijuana in his luggage.”
“Lewis has been heavily involved in U.S. Democratic Party politics for years. He started by working as the Ohio finance chairman for George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign. “I did it essentially because I hated Richard Nixon,” Lewis said. He is a close friend of Senator Ted Kennedy, who uses Lewis’ accommodations to “relax” when in Cleveland.”
“Lewis, who proudly describes himself as “half screwball, half businessman,” showed up at a meeting with a Cleveland City Council president wearing a Lone Ranger outfit. “
Also, according to The Radio Equalizer, Peter Lewis was one of the first financial backers of the failed liberal radio network Air America.
“… one of Air America Radio’s first financial backers was Peter Lewis, Chairman of Progressive Insurance? He remained a Piquant unit holder until the bankruptcy reorganization was complete.
In fact, he’s also associated with Democracy Alliance, the group that very nearly bailed Air America out before bankruptcy was finally declared. Lewis is associated with far-left causes and has a longtime political connection to George Soros.”
According to Progressive’s own website, they say Lewis stepped down as CEO in 2000, but is still the Chairmen of the Board.
So when we really dig into it, Lewis is more worried about money than reputation. I’ll bet he will be back to advertising on Beck when Obama’s ratings continue to tank.
Why would Lexis Nexis, who owns Lawyers.com, bail out of advertising on Beck? It was very well explained. It’s owned by lawyers. It’s a database of everything you can imagine. From Wikipedia.com:
The Lexis database contains all current United States statutes and laws and nearly all published case opinions from the 1770s to the present, as well as all publicly-available unpublished case opinions from 1980 onward. Since 2000, Lexis has begun building a library of briefs and motions as well, although coverage is still geographically spotty and somewhat erratic.
Lexis also has libraries of statutes, case judgments and opinions for many other jurisdictions such as France, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. Lexis has databases of law review and legal journal articles for all the countries for which it has materials.”
The Nexis database has about everything else, especially if you are trying to dig up dirt on someone. Also from Wikipedia.com:
“Nexis.com makes available content from 20,000+ global news sources, company & industry intelligence providers, biographical and reference sources, intellectual property records, public records, legislative and regulatory filings and legal materials. Nexis offers a global, multi-lingual content collection with an archive dating to the 1970s for some sources. Content offerings may be customized to reflect user needs and preferences.
Nexis.com has spurred the development of several related offerings to support corporate information needs; these include Company Dossier, Prosect Portfolio, Due Diligence Dashboard and LexisNexis Publisher.”
Also: “It was a continuation of an experiment organized by the Ohio State Bar in 1967.”
A really important aspect of this company is the following:
“In 2000, LexisNexis acquired RiskWise, a St. Cloud, Minnesota company. Then, in 2004, it acquired Seisint, Inc, of Boca Raton, Florida for $775 million. (Seisint housed and operated Multistate Anti-Terrorism Information Exchange (MATRIX).) These companies are part of LexisNexis’ Risk & Information Analytics group.[8]“
What does this mean? They sell major services to the US Government for trying to dig dirt on anyone the government thinks are terrorists. Think about it.
Proctor & Gamble may have pulled out for legitimate reasons, the CEO had some morals and ethics. The President and CEO, Robert McDonald is a stand up guy, as near as I can tell. From Wikipedia.com:
“He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. At West Point he served as the Brigade Adjutant for the Corps of Cadets and was awarded the Silver Medal from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce. After graduation, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army for 5 years, primarily in the 82nd Airborne Division, and earned an MBA from the University of Utah in 1978. Upon leaving the military he received the Meritorious Service Medal.”
But, after more digging, it appears that P&G is in the pockets of the environuts. More from Wikipedia.com:
“In 2007 Procter & Gamble pledged to reduce their carbon emissions, mainly through reduction in packaging along with decreases in water and energy use. The stated emission reduction goal was ten percent by 2012.[28]
Procter & Gamble is one of the founding members of Carbon Disclosure Project’s Supply Chain Leadership Council. Procter & Gamble is one of twelve global companies on the council whose first course of action is to distribute a survey to suppliers on the topic of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Since the first phase of the project, more corporations have joined the effort. The council’s overall goal is to encourage reductions in emissions down the supply chain.[29]“
The Carbon Disclosure Project is an international global warming CYA company. It was initially backed by the following banks:
“Obtained backing from blue chip investors including HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, American International Group, and State Street Corp.”
How many of these are in the pockets of the Obama administration? Follow the money…
